I will never look at church the same way after participating in the Gospel Discipleship sessions. This six week study of the gospels gave me a deeper sense of identity, personally, as well as for the church. The assessment quiz was the first step in determining my "type" and following that I actually began to prepare myself by reading each gospel along with, Gospel Discipleship-4 Pathways for Christian Disciples (which I highly recommend) by Michelle J. Morris.
The weekly session came alive as the participants and panelists shared their insights into the four discipleship types: Markan, Matthean, Lukan and Johannine Discipleship. Upon discovering that I am a Markan/Matthean type was an eye opener. It explained some of the reasons for my ministry habits as I engage the gifts of leadership and my expectation of others.
The Markan type was simple enough as I recognize God's presence among us and how God will use the gifts in us to be creative, build relationships and make room for others to be engaged. The Matthean type is not of a sit and wait attitude, but rather. will take control and lead. I am hard working but will follow if there is a plan in place with workable instructions. I can go on and on, my challenge to you is to get the book(s), get into a session and work your type.
I never connected my gifts and usage to a particular type and I acknowledge God blessing me with the gifts as I continue to use them in ministry as the opportunities present themselves.
What a revelation! My fall Bible study will be blessed because of my deepening understanding of the "types" among the congregants as we serve God faithfully and with purpose.

This discussion of discipleship types is easy to understand. It provides useful insight into my own discipleship and the style of my church. I hope that other people in my church will read this book.
